VU Baseball Field Gets a Facelift

Vanguard's baseball field renovation began in September of '08 and will be finished in January for the 2009 season. The entire playing surface has been graded out, laser-leveled and new sod was layed around the perimeter of the entire infield. Vanguard's field which was notorios for having hilacious hops & lips are no more..."The burms in front of the mound, behind home plate and 1st & 3rd are gone", "As a program, we have put roughly $20,000 into the field" states head coach Ralph Grajeda. The mound, baselines and bullpens were also redone with the field upgrade. The dug-outs have been modernized by adding concrete in front of the dugouts giving them more depth. The dug-out roofs will be extended and protective fencing will be in place this spring. The torn out backstop padding will be replaced by woodsiding giving it an old school feel. 5,000 watts of new lighting has replaced the old lights in the cage, as well as new tunnel netting. The tattered & torn outfield, windscreen has been replaced with navy windscreen and the batter's eye will be replaced with black windscreen.
